I have been pairing quite a few Deroplatys recently and, for the most part, the males have been decisive and got on with the job and the females have pretty much ignored them. In the many pairings I have only lost one male, who was old and a bit slow (like me, I suppose).

I thought that this male was going the same way, as he dithered about even after he jumped onto her back, attracting far too much attention. After nearly falling off a few times, he did what was expected and later had a celebratory supper of cockroach.

Great news David, I miss having this species!

It is the easiest of the Detroplatys - in my opinion - the mate and lay. The size and length of the ootheca never cease to amaze me, as does the way she protects it for several weeks after laying, wrapping her forelegs around it.
