leaf mulch substrate, if they have a bit of bark to hide under they will dig less often. no extra heating required and spray weekly though these can tolerate drier conditions than the other species of pill millipede in the uk apparently :)

*edit* they lay eggs in their poop so pretty much dont clean them out :!:

do you know what species is near you ?

our house is one of several new ones build into the area, over the years the variety of wildlife has dropped badly because of all the human activity i guess. used to be some pretty amazing wildlife around here but now youll only find the best things deep in the woods. im talking snakes, lizards huge old frogs/toads slow worms etc :)

i found an enormous toad once, filled the bottom of a bucket with its body and covered both my dads hand. havent seen a toad even half her since since, she must of been really old:? she walked straight through the front door and sat in our kitchen til we put her in the bucket and put her away from the road. poor thing :(

Remember seeing a lot of pill bugs in the garden about 10 years ago, i don't think i've ever seen one since, they just don't seem to be anywhere...

we have log piles and stuff in the garden but they seem to prefer untouched land. might be a few years before we start seeing them in the log pile :(
