I have had 2 species of crab in the past, similar to a 'mooncrab' Gecarcinus quadratus. I can't tell you how to keep mooncrabs but I can tell you a bit about crabs I guess. I'm not an expert though :P

They don't make the best pets for a beginner to be honest. They are amazingly interesting to watch but require high maintenance and a spot-on setup. You can't compromise or you will end up with some expensive crabsticks. :)

They are very easy to feed, they tend to scavenge. They do mess up their enclosure though and you really have to keep it clean.

It's not a good idea to handle them, this will likely only stress them-i just left mine alone.

Also they are pretty much impossible to breed in captivity. There are some crabs that breed in freshwater though these are usually expensive. 99% of the time they are wildcaught and will not be in the best of health. If they are lucky and have survived their trip from their native habitat, they will likely be in incorrect conditions in the petshop itself so keep an eye on the health of the crab and also the conditions it is in. I have seen rainbow crabs in petshops in anything from a dry vivarium full of woodchips (and dead crabs surprise surprise) to fully submerged in water with no land surface (no wonder they were trying to climb the sides  )

Always discard advice given to you by the salesperson unless they are actually one of the few awesome people who actually know their stuff ! Try and get in contact with someone who currently sucessfully keeps crabs would be my advice.

Sorry I went on a bit too much, hopefully someone who has kept these can provide an informed caresheet. :)
