When we had our royal s/he used to sit in its water bowl every evening throughout the night and disappear back into its hide for the day, its normal for the species in general i think, maybe he usually does it when the lights go out, ours used to do it in the day now and then :)

He looks really nice :thumb:

I used to have a pair of these, would sit in their water bowls all day.
Lovely snakes though, when they are feeding well.

Lucifer is about 5 now he was 2 when we got him and had him about 3 years now i think.
and i dont get what you mean with last part you asked?
guessing you meant live mice? if so you shouldnt feed live mice anyway so that wouldnt come into it.

I had loads of trouble with this one when rick got him ( he got him i have to suffer him no fun when you hate snakes)
and he wouldnt eat i got in a panic cos i thought he would die then i just got it cracked the food they told me to feed him was too big for his liking so i now give him 2 large mice every sunday and by friday his out looking for food already :)
his not missed more than a fortnights eating since but his a very busy lad his out and about every day never still

nice royal, had two of those for approx 5 years now lovely snakes, our reptile club only recommend newspaper or other safe paper for substrate our retired vet in our club says any other substrate can cause impaction of the gut and can be a swift cause of death, if you don,t like the look of newspaper you can use carpet tiles, washable as well. teresa x :snake:

theres always scare stories ,but ive had my royal on everything from newspaper in the early days
to beech chippings for many years , now she has orchid bark & has done for around the last 10 years .
never had any problems with impaction & ive always fed in-tank .
i can see the thinking behind it but never experienced any problems myself & the old girl is in her twentys now .
they dont get their food served up on a clean surface devoid of debris in the wild.

im not starting a fight btw teresa :)
im just saying everyone has different methods
& whatever works for you :thumb:

well this fellas getting on my nerves i dont like him and he scares me!
Simple he needs feeding and cleaning and water changing and i aint touching him was ok before he had a kinda sealed box so i could put my hand in while he was inside get the box out pop it in a pillow case sorted do what i want and put him back in.
everyone said take the bottom off be better and all that i did and after that i have been unable to do him at all.
cant help it he scares me he strikes as soon as i open the blasted viv and that doesnt make me feel any better about doing him.
so sitting here with all these paints and boxes behind me i thought im gonna make him a new house its just a cardboard box with a small one inside to make him feel safe painted it kid style

He seemed to like it been in it and curled up on top of it slid about all over it only problem its not heavy enough so he can move it too much so need think of something to put in which stops that but doesnt stop me lifting it out so i can do him.
thought i would share that with you all
