Hi folks I just had a cool idea! I have an old large glass tank maybe 4x2x2 or 3x2x2 or something like that....
I want to turn it into a massive community display tank! with millipedes of course lol
Does anyone know of any other invertebrate species that could coexist with millipedes that don't need to be fed every day...
Id love to have a tonne of giant African land snails and millipedes in it (maybe some stick insects? But as far as I know you need to change a giant African land snails food daily.....correct me if I'm wrong...
Any ideas?

Search link is at the top right of the home page (or any page for that matter).

Oh sorry lol found it now
I've been searching in it now but cant find much on my specific idea.....
Am I right saying that space isn't an issue with a tank that large?
And that's its mostly a question of finding compatible species that fit my requirements?

Evening Mirf :)

Space is always an issue, but is dependant on the number of induvidiuals and also what species you intend to house in it. Come up with some ideas and I'm sure someone will have some help :)

Ok :)
I'll start asking a few questions around the forum on different species requirements :)
If I put any roaches or beetles in ill only pick the largest species so that they wont escape

awww I just remembered that millipedes make a toxin if theyr irritated :(
I suppose that means they wouldn't do well in a community tank.....

You can keep certain species of millipede and beetle together - providing there's enough room and they're compatible enough :)

I have kept several species of millipede together for over a year with no mishaps. I have kept several Archispirostreptus gigas, Narceus americanus, Narceus annularis, and Tonkinbolus caudulanus together in a 10 gallon glass tank, (20"x10"x12"). I have also kept A. gigas with Hissers, Gromphadorhina portentosa). Again with no trouble. I have not tried snails though.

I think you might want to reconsider the beetle idea. Most any beetle large enough to see easily in the tank will probably be only too happy to eat little millipedes. The bettles might be OK with adults of the larger millipede species though. Also, Phasmids do require constant fresh food. So you would have to change thier food supply nearly daily. You stated that you did not want a species that had that requirement.

I thought you could just change a phasmids food plant every few days.....
I'm thinking of trying this in a smaller tank first and get a little experience with millipedes and other possibilities first
