I have a huge colony of small white mites in my milli tub. They swarm on the fruit I put in and literally 100's of them. I'm tempted to turf out the tub and start with clean sub due to the sheer numbers of them. Only thing stopping me is that the pink legs in there are younger, smaller and more elusive than the rainbows, which are always out and about. I don't want to disturb and risk loosing a moulting pink leg. I've read that SOME mites are normal and actually clean the millis legs, but my rainbows seem quite able to do that themselves, as see them self-grooming from time to time.
Any advice to remedy this problem, or should I leave them as part of the micro ecosystem in there? There are springtails and tropical woodlice in. These are definately crawling mites, not springtails. Don't want to risk them predating on eggs and/or young millis if they breed. The rainbows are close to adult.

Leave them be. Remove all food but leaves and wood. Add new substrate and over time the mites will die off. But if the mites are going after fruit then they are no immediate danger to your millis or eggs. But the huge number of mites could be competition for tiny millis looking for food.

Thanks for that. Do you mean feed NOTHING but leaves and wood? They are rather partial to sweet potato, which doesn't attract mites like fruit does.

Yes, leaves and rotting wood is the standard food source. But if you have other foods they like but that the mites don't, then continue to use those. Once the mites are gone, you can reintroduce other foods. I found mine love corn on the cob!
