 Post subject: heat mat enquiry/advice

Hi guys i currently have a heatmat on the side.of my exo terra large flat faunarium but I'm not sure what make it is but isn't very good. its keeping the temp about 18°c but I'm after one that will kick out abit more heat, can anyone reccomend any or tell me which one they use for thier millies please? Some people say don't need heat mat room temp will be fine but my house is quite cold so i want to make sure my big female is cosy :)

18C is plenty warm! Are you measuring the temp of the substrate or the air in the tank? Keep in mind that a good substrate produces heat as it rots.

I have my thermometer on the side inside so it'll be the air, i just worry because africa ain't bloody 18°c hahaha!

But the millipedes are both nocturnal and sub-surface. They go very deep to get away from the heat and to find moisture.

I personally have no heat source but room temp is always 19°C+ 'cause of vivs etc. Too much heat definitely can be an issue for millies (even if just because it causes substrate to dry out) so caution, and use a thermostat if getting more powerful mat.
