Hi I just thought I would tell everyone about how well my pancake slugs have been laying and producing gorgeous little babies. I was after these for ages & ended up paying a premium from them from Germany a couple of years back. I am amazed at how many people have been after them from me and ive sold off quite a lot but I have lots more. Im selling some through Bugnation so if anyone wants any they are in the slug & snail classifieds on this site. They are approx 1 inches long now & very very active for slugs.....!!!!! :kp: Regards Clair

Thanks, it's good to get words of encouragement. It's taken about 18 months for them to breed but well worth it. They are quite cute looking for slug's if that's a feesable descriptipn...hehe. Let's hope for more in the future. Clair :thumb:

hi, i am interested in learning the breeding conditions of these (humidity and temp) because i have a couple adults of these. one is smaller than the other so might not be mature yet but they are about 8cm at the mo.

Hi, I keep mine at room temp with no extra heat source. The only heat is from central heating. Even through this freezing winter they are very active. Obviously I have the heating on at home more so this compensates when its colder, plus I move them to a shelf above the radiator. I never let them get cold or too warm. I give them a light misting every 2-3 days. I keep the tank humid with a wet mix of coir & sphagnum moss. I have had huge success with breeding and have a batch of 40 babies from one large batch of eggs. They do take a while to reach adulthood but they are very active. When I first got mine I did have one that was slower to grow & it did die unfortunately but I am guessing it was just one of those things that happen as the others grew normally at the regular rate. I hope ive not waffled on here. Regards Clair .

Hi I forgot to add that after such a long time waiting for them to breed they did so very well. They do need to be at full adulthood for a little while before they do. I have noticed that with mine. 8cm is a good size & hopefully you will get results in time. The smaller one may just simply need to catch up. Did you get them at the same time & were they the same size?

i got them today, they are so great! even my brother mentioned how active and fun to watch they are!

did you try putting lots of twigs in the enclosure? they love climbing up them and reaching from one to another :)

it might be even bigger than 8cm stretched out (the bigger one) i haven't measured them yet...infact....just measured one climbing up the side its 10cm not sure if its the bigger one though!

did you notice variations in their colouring? ones light with dark spots and the other seems the opposite :hmm:

Hi again, Yes I have had bits and bobs in the tank but not twigs so will try it as it sounds perfect for them. I have a small terracotta plant pot on its side with shagnum moss stuffed inside. They always end up hiding in it. plus I have a few flat pebbles that they love sliding under or over them. They love quite a deep substrate too. I have about 3 inches of moss/coir and when I have a head count i really have to dig for them. I have been selling my current batch of babies off as im overrun with them. I do think they are great though. Yes they do look alot longer when stretched out.
The colors do vary in them and my oldest adult is a lovely cream and dark speckled colour & the babies are more like a light cream but some do have stronger colours and a few darker speckles. My babies hatched in march & they are now 1.5-2 inches long. I have a batch of eggs waiting to hatch. Great thing with the twigs though, im going to get some in mine. Clair :thumb:
p.s what are you feeding yours on? its always good to hear what other people do.

only got them today so im trying out really as i cant find much info on them (hence spamming your thread-sorry about that!)

ive tried cucumber and apple so far. one payed alot of attention to a lump of chalk which is weird as they dont have shells !

mine have about 2 inches of moss and coir mixed though they havent burrowed into it :hmm:

they really do seem to love the twigs, they hardly travel on the sides or bottom and spend all their time on the twigs. bit of luck for me to hit on that on my 1st day of keeping them

Kept these a couple years back, fed them on cucumber, courgette, apple, carrot and lettuce.

Kept damp but not wet, room temp with a soil substrate, some moss on top and a broken in half terracotta plant pot to hide under, which they love, and i'd add rotting leaves and some just starting to rot logs.

They did really well until i put them on the window sill one morning and went off to college, didn't realise it was going to be such a warm day and came back to 2 overcooked pancakes

:( OOps sorry to hear about that. ......
I usually feed mine on cucumber, tomato, lettuce, carrot & they are quite partial to sweet potato. I always place a bit of cuttlefish in too as they do have a nibble. I have now had mine two years & still have one of my original adults. I am unsure of how long they live but they make interesting & different pets. :D

mines still growing strong, still one smaller than the other but they have both grown. only thing im worried is they wont mate until both adult. the smaller one is possibly juvenile but im positive the larger one is now adult and has been for a little while.

wondering if there is such thing as a slug breeding loan :lmao:

gonna bump up their food supply try to get the wee one growing!
